Australian engineering expertise has played an important role in the development of the new Navara.

Nissan partnered with Premcar, the Australian engineering company behind the Navara Warrior program, to develop and validate an available locally tuned suspension package for Australian and New Zealand conditions.

Coarse-chip bitumen. Broken country roads. Corrugations. Gravel. Highways. Worksites.

The objective was to deliver a Navara that's comfortable and composed in everyday driving while remaining capable of dealing with the conditions Australian ute owners encounter.

SUPER 4WD - SERIOUS FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE CAPABILITY

The PRO-4X comes standard with Nissan's advanced Super 4WD system.

You still have the genuine low-range four-wheel-drive capability expected from a proper Navara.

But Super 4WD adds a full-time high-range 4WD mode, selectable at speeds up to 100km/h.

That provides another option when dealing with changing or slippery road conditions.

There's also a Torsen Limited Slip Centre Differential working to optimise torque distribution.

And when conditions become genuinely challenging, you've still got low range and an electronic rear differential lock ready to go.

SEVEN TERRAIN MODES

The PRO-4X features seven selectable terrain modes.

Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock.

Select the mode that suits the conditions and the Navara adjusts vehicle characteristics accordingly.

There's also Hill Descent Control to help manage vehicle speed on steep descents.

You concentrate on where you're going. The Navara helps configure itself for how you're getting there.

17-INCH BLACK ALLOYS AND ALL-TERRAIN TYRES

The PRO-4X features 17-inch matte black alloy wheels with 265/65R17 all-terrain tyres.

Compared with the ST-X's 18-inch wheel package, the smaller wheel diameter provides additional tyre sidewall, which is particularly useful when travelling over rougher surfaces.

Against the Boulder Grey body and black fender flares, the combination gives the PRO-4X a purposeful stance.

Under the bonnet is Nissan's 2.4-litre four-cylinder intercooled bi-turbo diesel engine.

Producing 150kW at 3,500rpm and 470Nm from 1,500 to 2,750rpm, it's matched to a wide-ratio 6-speed automatic transmission.

Official combined fuel consumption is 7.7L/100km.

There's a 75-litre diesel tank and a 17-litre AdBlue tank.

It's strong where a ute needs to be strong, but the engine isn't the whole story.

The new Navara is about how the drivetrain, Super 4WD system, terrain technology and chassis work together.

3.5-TONNE TOWING - AND THE TOWBAR IS ALREADY THERE

The D27 Navara has a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 3,500kg when appropriately equipped and operated within applicable vehicle and towing limits.

Nissan lists a 3,190kg GVM and 2,226kg kerb mass, giving the standard PRO-4X a factory payload figure of 964kg.

As always, accessories, occupants, towball download and cargo must be considered when calculating actual available payload.
